Thurs 5th July 3pm til 7pm The 10th FeedingManchester networking & training event, bringing together sustainable food projects in Greater Manchester.  The Yard, Work For Change, Hulme, M15 5RE on  with a BBQ held over the road at Hulme Community Garden Centre afterwards.

We are very happy to announce that we shall have Jade Bashford from England Community Land Advisory Service (CLAS) there to share her knowledge on Accessing land for Community Use.

Concentrating on:

• Introduction to leases and licences.
• Community gardener’s introduction to planning permission
• Communities buying land: how communities can buy land for food growing and community use, particularly as community land trusts.

There will be a ‘Wanted and Offered’ board available for individuals to share there needs and expertise. Plus ‘Manchester Food and Drink Festival’ 2012 updates and for sustainable food groups to devise the ‘Sustainable Fringe’.

Wednesday 11th July 1.30-3pm Launch of Hyde Park Community Orchard
The event has been organised so that local schools and other volunteers who have been involved in planting or making the artworks can come and celebrate completion of the new features. There will be refreshments and cakes, kids’ activities and tours of the orchard. The Mayor will be present to declare the orchard open so we are hoping for some real summer weather!

Engaging Communities on Climate Change
This course will teach you the skills and information needed to develop long-term engagement of civil society organisations, groups and individuals in work on climate change and low-carbon living.

It outlines why climate change can be a particularly problematic issue for communities, how to overcome this and how this links to issues around the Localism Bill and the ‘Big Society’.
People attending this course will:
1.     Learn the ways in which community engagement can deliver lasting change on climate and energy issues and how to make this happen.
2.    Understand why community engagement on climate change can be problematic.
3.    Be clear on the best ways to start a dialogue around climate change.
4.    Learn to lead a discussion on the positive aspects of low carbon living.
5.    Learn to support and work with communities.
6.    Be able to offer guidance to any community group on reducing their own foot print.
7.    Receive guidance on how to develop an action plan.

36 Manchester Road Chorlton cum Hardy, M21 9PH I can have all day Open House and would welcome volunteers to help remove the polystyrene covering walls and ceilings of the 2 attic rooms and roll up the carpets, but no obligation to do anything but call in and say hello or “Are you crazy?”.
On Tuesday 24 July from about 6.30 pm. a sledge hammer session will be launched to clear the backyard of concrete towards creating a vegetable/fruit and nut garden.
Observers may wish to lay bets or do any other wild thing to raise money for the GP or the house.
