When we first moved to Benchill from Clayton, in 1970. The area south of Woodhouse Park was arable land, providing food and a bio-diverse oasis away from the City. Slowly, the car-parks grew, a motorway link road built and the arable and associated bio-diversity disappeared. Living near the airport was not fun, as the noise, even in Benchill was at times very intrusive.
Why do we need more car parks anyway, have we not got a railway link there? Have we not got a super public transport system in Manchester (Leese, Manchester Evening News and Transport for Greater Manchester)? How is any of this development going to help Manchester reduce its’ carbon footprint? Who is actually going to benefit from all this development? The local residents, who are being negatively impacted by the airport expansion and the worsening of the air quality they breath, I do not think so.
