There was a corking letter earlier this week. It was by a chap who had done his PhD on storage of energy from renewables, and he dealt with the argument that pro-fossil fuel sorts deliver- “we can’t trust wind/solar power because the wind isn’t always blowing/sun always shining” – very neatly. He said it was akin to thinking water wouldn’t come out of a tap when it was not raining…
The protests at Barton Moss continue, and you can find out more here (facebook) or here.
If I can find that letter, I will scan it in. In the meantime, you’ll just have to make do with this, published yesterday. … Thanks to Brian Candeland
Here’s one local MP who won’t be taking mince pies to the gang at Barton Moss.
He’s on the Parliamentary Science & Technology Committee and clearly has a lot of faith in the regulatory procedures around fracking. He’s also sure that fracked gas will be able to subvert the current pricing mechanisms.

Saw yours yesterday Marc- well done for keeping the flag flying. Surprisingly (?) letters from my friends have failed to be published- as has our demo. outside HSBC on their role in financing coal extraction.
I apprec. it isn’t local, but if you are interested here is the press release I sent the Mule- tabloided version tweaked to make it less sickly and anodyne I’m afraid!

Hi Marc
Well done on the letter! The other one you refer to sounds like the one from David Jones: – I’ve emailed you a pdf of it.
Cheers, Brian
Thanks! I kept it but can’t find it. Will scan it in as soon as I can…
Marc
Did you read the nonsense Graham Stringer was published saying? Very pro-fracking and anti-renewables.
Nonsense? Graham Stringer? Shurely shome mishtake…
Maybe I am mistaken, but he definitely sounds like a man who thinks reducing our carbon emissions, is a total con. The fact industry has moved off-shore, is down to companies maximizing profits and not for ‘green’ reason is lost on him: http://www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk/News/Wind-Farms-The-Massive-Con.
And his take on ‘fracking’, is so childish, as to be totally unbelievable: http://www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk/News/Fracking-Lets-Get-On-With-It. And he is a member of the Parliamentary Group pushing ‘fracking’: http://www.carbonbrief.org/blog/2013/02/parliaments-new-fracking-group.
He is also is the MP who believes dyslexia is a myth: http://www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk/News/Dyslexia-is-a-myth.
Who is behind Manchester Confidential, Graham Stringer and family? Then again, I could be biased, having investments in renewables, especially wind and being assessed as being dyslexia.
The International Energy Agency states in a recent report:
“Non-conventional production will remain a North American phenomenon in the medium term. The United States alone represents over one-fifth of the global increase in gas production, benefiting from technological developments and cost-efficient field services. Exploration in other regions continues, but is hindered by geology, infrastructure and environmental constraints as well as lack of social acceptance.”
And in the UK, it is the geology which is a major constraint. Something the ‘fracking’ companies have not learnt from the history of coal mining in the UK.

We do not need Farange and UKIP in Manchester, we have Graham Stringer.
This is a long report from a House of Commons debate on ‘fracking’, on the 18th July 2013. Some way down, Graham Stringer is quoted as saying, that Aberdeen has high house prices because of the oil industry. Therefore areas where ‘fracking’ take place, will benefit from higher house prices, not lower as Barbara Keeley MP predicts. And of course, that is the most important thing, not the environment but house prices. There are also serious misinformation being pushed by the pro-frackers, such as there are no cases of people suffering from water pollution in the USA, due to ‘fracking’! http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201314/cmhansrd/cm130718/halltext/130718h0001.htm
