Poem: “Monument” #Manchester #climate

By local homelessness capacity-builder and all round good bloke Jez Green.

Monument

Arguments over the
ice fragment monument
continue unabated.
Political leaders’ primary
concerns relate to its
proposed positioning on
potentially habitable land.
The artist contends that
this is precisely the point,
citing genocide at a
continental level.
Meanwhile, oceans
continue to rise with
seventeen cities evacuated
this month alone.
Commissioned to
commemorate
the recent disappearance
of the very last piece
of naturally occurring
ice on Earth,
the eight metre glass
sculpture – entitled
“End of an Epoch” –
is a stark reminder to
Homo sapiens
of the limited wisdom
employed by the species.
Even our frosty
altercations over art
could not lower
the temperature
sufficiently to ensure
our survival.
