Ir you give a damn, find a functional group
Our "leaders" are going to keep making empty promises. It makes them feel good. It gets the activists to act like zombie kittens. If you want to have some self-respect and perhaps make a difference (actual facts may vary), then find a functioning group that cares about your skills and knowledge - what you have, what you want. I understand your incredulity but, unfortunately, it can be incredibly dangerous for kids to walk to school in rural areas where there are winding lanes, no pavements – and everybody else is in a car. Either everybody walks or nobody does.
I like your first option, more than your second!
But seriously, thanks for providing a useful corrective. Fit(sort of) urbanites like me can get a bit sneery about these things…
